A number of the students I work with suffer from p

A number of the students I work with suffer from panic attacks. They are such horrible experiences and leave you feeling totally drained.

We work together to try to understand what causes these unpleasant pleasant periods and put some ideas in place to help prevent them.

I always think it’s incredibly brave for a young person to even try to explain how it feels - let alone find the courage to start tackling those situations which may be challenging.

Many of my students have got exams coming up over the next few weeks. It’s really natural that some worries will start to bubble up. But, let’s also think about some ways of getting a bit ahead of the curve and prep without pressure.

This week: sort your workspace. Even if this is your bed…

Ask yourself - what do I need to settle down to revise? Gather all your drink bottles, chargers, notebooks and so on so you have everything you need to hand.

Do you need music too? Got your playlists sorted. If you do this now, you’ll be good to go when you really need to focus.

And finally, might you need to give your study space a spring clean? Just asking…

Around now might also be a time when doubts start to kick in. It’s easy to forget how far you’ve come and how hard you’ve worked. You are good enough and it’s one last push to the finishing line.

Many of my students have got exams coming up over the next few weeks. It’s really natural that some worries will start to bubble up. But, let’s also think about some ways of getting a bit ahead of the curve and prep without pressure

By now, you’ll have a very good idea of what is ahead of you. Do you have all the resources you need?

By this I mean, of course, the practical things - can we ever have enough pens and nice stationery? But, also be aware of the habits and routines which always help you when you’re feeling a bit stressed. Do you use a fidget toy or maybe walking your dog or going for a run or swim help you out.

Having someone to talk to is always a great resource. Make sure you have a trusted person who will be around during your exam time.

Also now is a good time to remind yourself of strategies which help soothe your mind - this might be breathing techniques, sorting your pens out, some form of exercise, baking. Whatever works for you.

Many of my students have got exams coming up over the next few weeks. It’s really natural that some worries will start to bubble up. But, let’s also think about some ways of getting a bit ahead of the curve and prep without pressure.

Over the next four weeks, I’ll share some posts with some practical ideas which I hope help.

This week, check that you haven’t got any clashes with your exam timetable. Look at your diary and see if any birthdays fall in that period for example. It may be helpful to get presents in advance - and you may need to think if you’ll really be able to go to parties and gatherings at this time.

This isn’t about being anti-social or ‘awkward’. It’s about what you need to do for you.

If you do see any clashes of events, try and talk to the people involved now. It’s really understandable if you want to keep your exam time completely free but you also won’t want to let people down at the last minute.

It’s also so important not to overstretch yourself during your exam time.

It’s a new month and a new quarter! That means lots of exciting new plans.

I have pages and pages of notes and lists and these are a few of the highlights:

🪻More new designs are working through our system.
🪻More new, free resources are in development too.
🪻Research has started for a new Inkpots website (so excited!).
🪻And after lots of requests, I am opening up a few mentoring slots for adults. I’ll be sharing more soon but if you’re interested, pop me a message and I’ll send further details.

Some new students are going to starting my six wee

Some new students are going to starting my six week programme after Easter. This time frame and format feels just right for them - and I also can’t wait to start.

But I also offer less formal, more ad hoc sessions too. Sounding board sessions are available for any young person who needs a quick catch up and review or a bit of support with a particular issue.

We love a bit of Spring weather at Inkpots! The general consensus is that we like a bit of sunshine, but not too hot, thanks very much.

This past week, we’ve been having check ins to make sure everyone’s physical and emotional wellbeing is as good as possible. We’re getting towards the end of a long term - it’s felt like it has rained for weeks too.

But a bit of spring sunshine can lift everyone’s spirits and this helps with the final bit of energy needed to get through to the holidays.

We’ve also talked about being aware that those around us might be flagging too - whether that’s friends, parents, siblings or teachers.

A bit of kindness and a touch of patience can also help alongside that sunshine.

I was talking to a teacher today about how helpful

I was talking to a teacher today about how helpful it had been when she had taken some time to read some poetry a student had written. For her, it was just a passing moment but for the student it meant so much more.

I commented that this had been a ‘lighthouse’ moment - when she’d provided a glimmer of light for that young person.

Being a lighthouse for a young person means consistent, steady support - where the interest is genuine and sincere.
