We run three term-time groups offering creative writing activities and support for young people. Our groups are safe spaces where young people can express themselves and know that their work will be respected. The Inkpots’ community is built on kindness, inclusivity and a shared love of books and reading.
We have excellent links with authors, artists and other creatives and all our groups will be welcoming visitors throughout the year.
Tuesday group (for young people age 12 – 15 years – Years 8,9 and 10) 3.45pm. The aim of this group is not only to provide creative inspiration and support but also to expand horizons and to look at where writing and creativity could take young people. We have recently welcomed authors Kate Mallinder, Nicola Penfold, A M Dassu, Kieran Larwood and Finbar Hawkins, journalist Marcella Whittingdale and illustrator Katy Riddell.
Thursday group 1 (for young people age 10 – 12 years – Years 6 and 7) 4pm. By joining these two school year groups together, we are aiming to offer peer support to the Year 6 children transitioning to secondary school in September, while giving Year 7 students continuity in their start to their secondary school life. We will be looking also at developing writing and storytelling skills as well as welcoming authors and artists to some sessions. We have loved welcoming authors Vashti Hardy, James Nichol, Hannah Gold and Cat Weldon to date – with lots more visits planned!
Thursday group 2 (for children age 9 – 10 years – Year 5) 4.45pm This group is for children in school Year 5 and will help them develop their storytelling skills through fun activities. We will use a theme for every half term. Between sessions, Gill is able to offer feedback and advice on story structure and development. This group also benefits from author visits too when the children join with our other Thursday group.
Each session costs £7.50.
