In the six and a half years since Inkpots started, we have been involved in many exciting projects. But the latest one at The Burgess Hill Academy has to be right at the top of the list.
We are currently working alongside the Academy to develop a room just off the Library into a creative space which can be used by our group as well as other students.
The students from Years 7 and 8 who come along on Monday lunchtimes (plus those who often call in to see us) have been central in the planning of this project.
The room is really generous space wise but the students (and Mr Francies!) have got some exciting ideas. Our plans are to turn the room into a comfortable area which is reminiscent of a Harry Potter-type common room. So we’re thinking squidgy sofas, pine table and chairs, beanbags, cushions and plenty of books.
The Premises Team has been hard at work over the past few weeks and now it’s time to start on the design and furnishing of the space.
We are very grateful to local business Unjamit for the donation of a new computer for the students. We would also be delighted if any other businesses, organisations or individuals would like to donate any goods too. This is our current ‘shopping list’:
*Rugs, cushions and beanbags
*Paint and brick-effect wallpaper
*Pine table and chairs
*Secondhand leather-effect settee and chairs
*Pens, notepads and art materials.
